Altenew February 2019 Stamp/Die/Stencil Release Blog Hop + Giveaway.
Hi there and welcome to the Altenew February Release* Blog Hop! I got to be honest, the new monthly Altenew releases are quickly becoming one of my favorite events each month! 😀
You should have come here from the lovely Zinia Redo’s blog, but should you get lost or want to start from the beginning, hop on over to the Altenew Blog to find the whole list of participants.
Beautiful Peony Cards
My absolute favorite stamp set in the whole new release is the 4×6 Beautiful Peony set that also comes with coordinating dies! Not only because peonies are my all-time favorite flowers, but also because I just adore the beautiful designs of the flowers with the delicate lines!
I decided to make the floral images the stars of my cards and the tag, so I didn’t want to add too much more to them. First, I stamped the flowers and leaves from the stamp set a few times with my favorite black waterproof ink pad, then die cut them and finally used my watercolors to color them in.
The reason why I first die cut and then colored them is that I wanted the paper to curl up a little bit around the edges from the water. That helps to give the flowers and leaves a beautiful dimensional look.
For the first card I used the Pinstripe stamp set to create a black and white patterned background. I stamped the image twice, once in each direction, to get this waffle weave-y pattern (or whatever you’d call that 😉 ). I used foam dots to adhere the die cut images to give them even more dimension.
I wanted to go very simple and minimal for the sentiment, so I just used the “hello” from the Pinstripe stamp set and gold embossing powder to heat emboss it. The final touches are some black paint splatters and black enamel dots from the Rock Collection Enamel Dots.
I used almost the same techniques to create the tag below, with the only differences that I stamped the Pinstripe background just once and chose “thank you”, again from the Pinstripe set, for the sentiment.
The second card I made with the Beautiful Peony stamp set is even more minimal, but I really think that these gorgeous flowers are a real eye-catcher and can stand on their own.
I kept the background white and only added some black paint splatters and enamel dots again. To tie the card in with the other two, I wanted to add some gold as well but couldn’t decide on a sentiment. So instead I used this beautiful gold sparkly ribbon from my stash and adhered it beneath the die cut flower for that extra pop and sparkle.
Dotted Blooms Card
For the next card I used the new 4×6 Dotted Blooms Stamp Set. This one is another layering stamp set, which means it comes with outline images, as well as stamps to fill those outlines.
For some reason I was feeling the minimal vibe on the day I created all those cards, so this one is another example for it. I used a grey ink pad to stamp the outline and stem, and then filled the flowers in with a peachy and a light pink ink pad.
I used a sentiment from the same stamp set and stamped it with black ink. When I was done, the card felt a little bit too minimal, though. But I also didn’t want to add anything that would distract from the florals.
Instead, I stamped the polka dot stamps from the Pinstripe stamp set* with clear embossing ink and then used clear embossing powder to heat emboss them. This creates a very subtle texture and background for the card and I love how it turned out! For some final touches I also added Nuvo Drops in coordinatiing colors.
*can you tell I’m a little bit obsessed with this one? 😉 I just recently got it and now I can’t seem to stop using it!
I hope you enjoyed these projects and that you will check out the fabulous Altenew February release – there are so many more gorgeous new products included! And make sure to hop on over to Keeway Tsao’s blog for some more inspiration! 🙂

The simple card/tag designs are so pretty! Sometimes I find these the most difficult to create. I like the pinstriped background on the tag with the single peony, and that peach and grey combination on the Dotted Blooms is beautiful. That’s my favorite set from this release.
