Spellbinders Jane Davenport | NEW Artomology + Making Faces Blog Hop
Hey there and welcome to the Spellbinders* & Jane Davenport blog hop showcasing the new Artomology and Making Faces products!
If you’ve come here from Kathy’s blog, then you are right on track. In case you get lost, just start from the Spellbinders blog.
For this blog hop I got to play with some of the new Jane Davenport products and the one I am definitely most excited about are the Soul Window ColorSticks! The ColorSticks are silky smooth water-soluble gel crayons and they just glide over the paper – so satisfying! š
I used the ColorSticks in three different ways on this layout. First, I scribbled them onto a piece of plastic packaging, sprayed it with water and then pushed the color onto my white cardstock background. I repeated this with Violet Eyes, Make a Moue and Lapis Lazuleye. This gives the background a watercolor effect look. And since I was using a pool photo, I thought this would go perfectly together.
Next, I took another piece of white cardstock and scribbled various sizes of circles in the same colors plus Limpid Pool onto it. I used a wet paintbrush to then dillute the colors. When the circles were dry, I cut them out so I could use them as embellishments on my layout.
Another way to use them is to dillute the paint in water (on a piece of plastic or in a coloring palette), dip your brush into it and then splatter some of the color onto your project. Since I already had the big circles that reminded me of bubbles, little paintdrops fit this theme rather perfectly, too. Besides, I just can’t create a layout without paint splatters š
For the main element on my page I die cut the woman with flowing hair from white cardstock, using the Marcias Makeover die set. It just reminded me of a mermaid, so obviously I had to use it on this page. This also inspired the title “Mermaid Vibes”.
To embellish her, I also cut some of the small flowers that are included in the die set from another watercolored piece of paper. Again, I used the same ColorSticks colors. To give the flowers a little more depth, I then used the Lit It Up Palette Pastel set and the Fishcotheque Shimmer Pastels (they are sparkly!) and rubbed them onto the edges.
You could use your fingers or a sponge to do this but I found that the Baton Blenders work really well for this and allow you to be very precise.
After I had added all the watercolored elements to my page, it still felt like it was missing something. When you look at my photo, you will see that it has some black in it. So I thought I would try and add some black elements to this page to give it more contrast. Besides, I really really wanted to use the Licensed to Quill Ink Pen – it’s so soft!
I doodled a few small hearts with the pen and then also dug out some black stickers from my stash and added them in there as well. I felt like the black completed the page.
