Altenew September 2019 Stamp/Die/Stencil Release Blog Hop + Giveaway
Hey friends and welcome to the Altenew* September 2019 release blog hop! This release is a nice mix of Christmas or winter-themed products and ones that you can use all year round! Have a look for yourself:
You should have arrived here from Jen’s blog. You can also find the full blog hop list over on the Altenew card blog.
For my projects today I decided to focus on heat embossing and show you different ways of how you can use it on your cards. So let’s have a look at the possibilities:
1. Heat emboss a background stamp
For the card below I used the new Faceted Stars stamp set and heat embossed it with gold embossing powder. I considered watercoloring it but then decided to leave the background as is. Heat embossing (especially with metallic colors) already adds so much that it can stand on its own.
This would also look great on a dark colored cardstock! There are so many possibilities with this technique.
2. Heat emboss on specialty paper
Sometimes you just want to use specialty paper like vellum or mirror cardstock on your project to give it that little something extra. But a lot of stamp inks won’t dry properly on those papers. So heat embossing to the rescue!
For the sentiment strip on the card above I used frosted silver mirror cardstock and then heat embossed the sentiment from the Brilliant Baubles stamp set in black. For papers with a slippery surface I’d recommend using a stamping tool like the MISTI or the stamping platform to avoid smudging the image.
3. Heat emboss die cuts
Another way to add heat embossing to your cards is by embossing a die cut. You could either first die cut the image (like I did with the Mega Love word below) and then cover it with embossing ink and heat emboss it.
For the background I used the new Layered Snowflake Cover Die B that I cut once from white cardstock and once from a watercolored panel.
Or you can take a small piece of cardstock, press your watermark ink pad onto it and heat emboss the whole piece. Then use this heat embossed piece to die cut your image(s). I’d recommend doing it this way around when die cutting smaller pieces like the letters from the Tall Alpha die set on the card below.
By the way, the background was made with the gorgeous new Flower Garden stamp set that I stamped onto a white card base. I then added some black enamel dots and golden paint splatters. To make the “Love you” sentiment stand out a little more, I die cut each letter three more times from white cardstock and then stacked them all together.
4. Watercoloring a heat embossed image
One of my favorite ways to use heat embossing is for watercoloring! The raised heat embossed edges make it really easy to color an image. For the card below I repeatedly stamped and heat embossed the Modern Poinsettia image, colored them and then fussy cut them.
Next, I adhered the pieces with foam tape to my white card base. I then used Nuvo Drops in Mustard Gold to fill in the empty spaces. Finally, I added a strip of frosted silver mirror cardstock and adhered the letters for JOY from the Tall Alpha die set to it.
5. Use layered stamps for heat embossing
We all know and love Altenew’s layering stamps, right? But have you ever tried heat embossing the different parts with different embossing powders? It definitely makes for a great look!
For the card above I used the Festive Foliage stamp set and heat embossed the three parts in gold, silver and rose gold. I finally added the “warmest wishes” sentiment from the Modern Poinsettia set in black and then mounted the panel onto a side-folding card base. To make the panel pop, I painted the frame around it gold.
So that’s it from me today! I hope you enjoyed these projects and the ideas for heat embossing inspired you to give it a go yourself! Thanks a lot for stopping by 🙂 Now hop on over to Kathy to continue the blog hop.
