Altenew June 2019 Stand-alone Die Release Blog Hop + Giveaway
Hey friends and welcome to the Altenew* June 2019 Standalone Die release blog hop! This release contains lots of great and versatile dies and one new 3D floral die set, woohoo!
You should have arrived here from Seeka’s blog. You can also find the full blog hop list over on the Altenew card blog.
Spring Blooms – Layout
For this release I managed to create a layout and some cards as well, mixing and matching the different new standalone dies. On this page I used the Color Wheel die for the main elements and then – since I can’t seem to create anything without flowers – embellished them with the Virginia Rose 3D die set.
I first die cut three circles with the Color Wheel die from regular white cardstock and then backed some of the parts of each circle with paper scraps in pink, yellow and mint/aqua. I decided to stick to this color scheme for the flowers too to give the whole page a cohesive look.
What I love about this layout is that I was able to use up quite a few paper scraps! Even the lemon slices and butterflies I scattered around the page were cut from scraps I had left from some patterned papers!
For the title I used a mix of puffy alphabet stickers. The small yellow ones are from this set here and the white skinny ones are from Felicity Jane. For some final touches I also used Nuvo Drops in coordinating colors around the page. This time I actually decided against adding paint splatters because I felt they would make the layout too busy.
Dry Embossed Cards
For this set of cards I used the Delicate Mandala die and dry embossed it onto two white card panels, using my Spellbinders Platinum 6 and the embossing mat.
You can use any die for dry embossing with your die cutting machine but you will need an embossing mat. The Spellbinders machines already come with it, but for other brands it may be available seperately.
I then used Distress Oxides in Squeezed Lemonade, Tattered Rose and Worn Lipstick and blended them onto my two dry embossed card panels with an ink blending tool. I tried to follow the design of the Delicate Mandala die and started with the first color in the center of it, then blended the second one in a circle around it and finally used the third color for the outside.
Next, I heat embossed the sentiments in the centers of the cards using Brass embossing powder. For the sentiments I combined the scripty font of the Inked Rose stamp set with the block font of the Sentiment Strips set.
Since the surface onto which I stamped the sentiments is uneven, I used my Mini MISTI to be able to double or triple stamp them with watermark ink onto the backgrounds.
For some final touches I scattered some sequins around the cards and also splashed a little bit of water onto them so it would react with the Distress Oxides.
Die Cut Cards
For the second set of cards I used the Dainty Blooms Cover die to create the backdrop. I cut it once from white cardstock and once from a piece that I had watercolored before. I backed the white die cut piece with another watercolored panel to tie the two cards together.
Next I heat embossed the two sentiments with white detail embossing powder onto two scraps of yellow cardstock and finally added one 3D Virginia Rose to each card.
The sentiments I used are from Coral Charm (left) and Beautiful Day (right). On the card on the right I also used Nuvo Drops in Simply White, Buttermilk and Bubblegum Blush to add accents to some of the flowers in the background.
I hope you enjoyed these projects! I would love to know which one is your favorite or also, which of the new standalone dies is your top pick! Your next stop on the hop is Nenette.
