Pinkfresh Studio April Sketch Challenge with Let Your Heart Decide.
Hey friends 🙂
Did you know that at the beginning of each month you can now find a monthly challenge over on the Pinkfresh Studio blog? There will always be a challenge like a moodboard or a sketch, some interpretations from the Design Team, and, of course, a chance for you to win some Pinkfresh Studio goodies or a gift card to the store! And no matter if you are a card maker or prefer making layouts, you can enter either way.
This month we were given a colour scheme and a sketch. You can use either of them or combine them. I decided to use both for my layout. Matching the colour scheme was super easy because it just screams for the Let Your Heart Decide collection 😉 But you could also make it work with any of the other Pinkfresh Studio collections.
I stuck almost 100% to the sketch. The only things I changed were the placement of the title (I moved mine to the bottom left corner), and instead of that big shape to the left of the layout, I used a few smaller ones. I also added a very thin strip of the Escapade paper on the left and bottom edge of my layout.
For the circles in the sketch I used my 1 1/4″ circle punch and punched most of them out of the Spur paper. This one was perfect because it has a lot of small icons and words on it that fit my photo really well. The photo was taken at one of my favourite places in Barcelona, the Espai Joliu, which is a mix of coffee shop (with really good food) and plant shop. So I tried to punch out icons and words that went with the theme: I have a coffee cup and a coffee maker, some flowers, a plant and some hearts with the word love. All describe this place so well – it was kinda meant to be 😉
Behind every other circle I added another one that I punched from different patterned papers to add some more dimension and to pick up on the colours in the colour scheme. I used my sewing machine to stitch them down. By lifting the layered circles up a little, I could also add some more dimension to this layout.
On the left and right of my photo I used some of the ephemera pieces and one of the layered stickers to kinda simulate that shelf look. Actually, the strip of patterned paper in the sketch reminded me of a shelf, which lead me to pick this photo in the first place. So it all fell into place – I love when that happens 🙂
For my title I used a mix of the grey puffy alphabet stickers from the Mix No. 2 collection and that “moments” ephemera piece from the same collection. Although I love the puffy alphabet stickers from the Let Your Heart Decide collection, they didn’t feel right for this layout and would have added too much colour. So this was a great alternative. The puffy alphabet stickers from the Mix No. 2 collection are actually a perfect staple – they have a great size and there are so many colours to choose from! And besides, who could say no to puffy letter stickers? I sure can’t, haha 😀
To finish my layout off, I scattered around some more small embellishments (mostly flowers and hearts), added some tiny stamped flowers from this Unicorn Dreams stamp set and of course some Color Shine paint splatters. I didn’t add any journaling to this page because when I look at this photo, I know exactly what it is about and what I want to remember.
I have to say, although I was a bit skeptical when I first saw the sketch (not because of the sketch itself but because it didn’t feel like “me”), I am so happy with how this layout turned out! As I said, it all somehow fell into place and just worked. I hope you like it, too, and that you try your hands at this challenge! Remember, there’s something to win as well 🙂 Just make sure you read the rules and information and that you link your entry to this post on the Pinkfresh Studio website here.
