Hey everyone, it’s Kathleen back with you and I finally have another mini album to share! I absolutely love creating mini albums with all kinds of binding techniques, shapes and sizes. Today’s mini would also make for a great little gift for a special someone, as it comes in a box!
For the accordion fold type mini and the box I used the beautiful Heritage collection. The mini book is really easy to create, here’s how to do it:
- Choose a few papers and cut them down to 4“x6“ or 4“x9“. I used the papers Perennial, Postmarked and Library for mine.
- Score and fold them along the longer side every 3“.
- Now attach the single pieces to each other. You can either glue them together completely or leave an opening to one side or the top to create a little pocket.
- You can also use washi tape to adhere the pages together.
The closed mini album will measure 3“x4“. The thickness depends on how many pages you add.
By following these simple steps you will already have a base that you can work with. All you need to do now, is fill it with your photos, embellish it to your liking and add your journaling.
When I was done with mine, I used a leatherette cord and tied it around to close it. I also strung one of the silhouette charms onto the cord – I love to use charms!
Ideas & tips for embellishing the mini album:
- Adhere a pocket from the Cards and Envelopes Stationary Pack to one page & slide in a tag with a photo and/or journaling.
- Leave some pages (almost) blank to avoid the album becoming too busy and allow your photos to stand out.
- Add machine or hand-stitching for texture and to create pockets.
- Add chipboard stickers for texture and dimension.
- Mix different kinds of embellishments for variety, like cardstock and chipboard stickers with ephemera pieces. By repeating certain elements (like the houses in my album, for example) you can create a coherent look.
When you are done with the mini album, you can create a little box to put the album in. This can also function as a gift box where you could also put in a gift card or some money (if it was a Birthday present, for instance).
I created mine by hand, but you could also use your electronic die cutting machine if you have one. Just make sure that the measurements of the box will accommodate the mini album plus whatever you might want to add in the box, too.
For the box I used the B-side of the Generations paper on the outside and decorated it with a doily, some butterflies in different sizes and a chipboard sticker.
I hope you enjoyed this project and it inspires you! Thanks for stopping by! Xo, Kathleen
