I know I have been sharing a lot of cards on the blog recently and (unfortunately? 😉 ) today won’t be any different. With the date for another Maggie Holmes Design Team assignment was coming up and Christmas right around the corner, I thought I would try to use the Willow Lane* collection to create a holiday-themed project.
I thought I would also share some tips & tricks with you that might help creating Christmas projects with non-themed products.

Color Scheme
Picking traditional Christmas colors like red, green and gold certainly helps to give your projects that holiday feel. And if you are not a big fan of the traditional look, just take variants of those colors like I did on my cards here.
Instead of red I used the light pink and instead of the regular kelly green I used the tealish green from the Willow Lane papers and embellishments. And obviously a little bit of gold and glitter never hurts to add a little bit of festiveness 😉
Images & Patterns
When not working with a Christmas-themed collection, look for general images like stars, wreaths, leaves, twigs, trees, bows, houses, etc. – anything that conveys the festive, homely and/or nature-look.
The cute little houses in the puffy stickers and the cuckoo clock from the Wonderful Thickers that I used on two of my cards fit the bill perfectly for me. And there were lots of golden stars to choose from between all the different kinds of embellishments. The starm trim isn’t just perfect for wrapping gifts, but you can also attach it to your cards or layouts.
Messages
Usually holiday-themed collections come with all kinds of sentiments that you would use for Christmas. And when you read something like “merry XYZ” on a card or layout, your mind will probably immediately jump to this holiday.
Using alphabet stickers makes it very easy to add any phrase or word to your project and make it holiday-ready! I used the cardstock alpha stickers and the gold foil Thickers to spell out “Oh Joy” and “Merry Christmas”. For the third card I used a chipboard sticker that said “spread love”, and I thought this works perfectly for any kind of project!
I hope these cards give you some ideas for how you can use the Willow Lane collection (or any non-holiday collection) for your Christmas projects!
Have a wonderful holiday season!
Kathleen
