As I went through the blog post drafts, I came across this post for a mini album I made with the gorgeous Maggie Holmes “Flourish” collection* and project pad. I thought today would be as good a day as any to finally share this one! You can also find a video flipthrough of the finished project here & at the end of this post.
When Flourish was first released, I used it to create a (not so mini) mini album documenting my love for flowers and plants. Because if there is a collection suited for this topic, it’s the Flourish collection! And because I have an almost never-ending supply of flower photos, I decided I would create another mini album dedicated to them. But this time I did keep it more “mini”.
If you like, you can watch how I made last year’s mini album here, and a walk-through of the finished piece here.
I created the cover with chipboard that I covered with the beautiful Fragrant paper on the outside and the Perennial paper (B-side) on the inside. I also used the skinny pink washi tape to cover the spine and add a touch of color to it.
I didn’t want to add a title to the cover of the album, but I also didn’t want to keep it plain, so the wood frames came in handy. I used one of the four frames, backed it with a piece of patterned paper and then embellished it with the embroidered patch and one of the sequin flowers.
The inside of the mini album consists of a pocket on the left side and an accordion style fold-out album on the right side. I also incorporated a few flip-up elements and pockets in the mini album.
With a mini album that is this small, I like to maximize the space where I can put photos, journaling or ephemera as much as possible. Besides, I think it’s just so much fun when you can flip through an album and discover hidden pockets and interactive elements throughout!
When you turn the album over or fold the accordion out towards the left side, the back of it is revealed. Here I incorporated two more pockets. One made with a piece of patterned paper and for the other I used the vellum terrarium ephemera die cut, backed it with white cardstock and then only adhered the lower edge to the album. That way I can tuck a photo behind this die cut piece.
I tried to keep the color scheme to mainly white, black, pink/red and green to give the album a cohesive look and not make it too busy. I also used several butterflies and dragonflies around the album that I cut from the 12″x12″ patterned paper, as well as from the smaller 6″x8″ paper pad.
The pocket on the left side of the album holds additional photos. I backed all of them with ephemera die cuts or pieces of patterned paper that either had a nice word/phrase or an illustration on them. That way the front and back of each photo is pretty to look at.
I absolutely enjoyed working with the Flourish collection again! I fell in love with it when it was released in 2018 and was so excited to see it re-released for the Joann stores! Besides, the exclusive Project Pad is so much fun!
And as promised, here is the video flipthrough of the finished project:
I hope you like this project and it inspires you what you can do with this beautiful collection! Thanks for stopping by! 🙂
